Tom Brady goes into further detail about Antonio Brown incident

There may be more than meets the eye with the Antonio Brown drama that occurred on Sunday, which led to his eventual exit from the field.

Brown left the field in a hurry on Sunday against the New York Jets, but he did make a scene first. AB took off his jersey and pads, pumping up the MetLife Stadium crowd on his way out. Stadium security reportedly thought he was a fan who ran onto the field.

There’s more to this story, of course — Brown hopped in a car service and went straight to the airport. Per Bruce Arians, Brown was no longer a member of the Bucs the minute he left the sideline.

But is that all that happened? Reports suggest that Brown was dealing with a lingering ankle injury, which may have contributed to his request not to be put back in the game at that very moment. Tom Brady, Brown’s good friend, wished AB the best and said fans should have some sympathy for him.

Tom Brady: Antonio Brown deserves our sympathy

“I didn’t understand kind of what was happening until after the game,” Brady said. “I didn’t understand what transpired and I saw after the game Mike [Evans] was trying to talk to Antonio and so was O.J. [Howard]. And I know Bruce [Arians] was also. Again, it was just a very difficult situation for everybody involved.

“I’ve known Antonio for a couple years now, you know, pretty closely,” he said. “We’ve obviously been teammates and I would just say I love him, I care about him, and I have a lot of compassion. I have a lot of empathy for the things that are happening in his life. So, it’s a lot of challenges we all face from time to time. I think the best thing is to have a support system, even outside of football, because again, yeah, we are football players, we’re athletes, we give everything we can on the field, but we also have off field lives, too. And I’m gonna continue to do everything I can to try to be a great friend and supportive to Antonio and the things he’s going through.”

Brady went on to cite other athletes — such as Simone Biles and Naomi Osaka — who have taken breaks from the sport to benefit their mental health. While TB12 didn’t explicitly say that Brown has a mental health problem, perhaps this was more than just Brown drawing attention to himself.

Ben Roethlisberger’s final game just got even better with Ravens guest of honor

The Baltimore Ravens are ramping up their rivalry nostalgia with the Pittsburgh Steelers in what could be Ben Roethlisberger’s final NFL game.

The Baltimore Ravens may be one of the NFL’s newer franchises, but they’ve already built an impressive legacy with several Hall of Famers already enshrined in Canton.

To honor that legacy, the Ravens have been promoting former players in their “Legends of the Game” series, which brings back a famed Baltimore great to rile up the crowd during halftime.

Week 12 featured offensive line great Marshall Yanda, and the team ended up winning 16-10 over the Cleveland Browns. Ideally, the Ravens’ Week 18 legend will liven up the crowd even more — especially since the Ravens are facing Big Ben in what could be his final NFL appearance.

Ravens legend returns to intimidate Ben Roethlisberger in his final game

The Ravens are bringing back explosive linebacker Terrell Suggs to hype up the M&T Bank Stadium crowd as Week 18’s Legend of the Game.

Suggs, who won the 2011 Defensive Player of the Year, terrorized AFC quarterbacks as a lethal edge rusher from 2003-19. Suggs spent 15 years with the Ravens before brief stints with the Arizona Cardinals and Kansas City Chiefs in ’19. Remarkably, Suggs was claimed off waivers by the Chiefs in mid-December of their Super Bowl-winning season, giving Suggs two Super Bowl rings to finish his NFL career.

Back in 2017, Suggs was asked what it was like to be the face of the tense Ravens-Steelers rivalry.

“I guess it kind of describes it — nasty,” Suggs laughed.

“For those teams, those guys are ‘those players,’” said Mike Wallace, who has played for both teams. “Sizz is a Raven. Ben is a Steeler. It is so deep — the rivalry for those guys — they bleed those colors. It is bigger for them, obviously, than anyone else.”

It makes sense that seeing Suggs could bring back painful memories for Roethlisberger, as Suggs remains the sack leader against the all-time Steelers legend. Suggs has sacked Roethlisberger 17 times in his career, which is more than any other player in the league.

Conversely, Roethlisberger defeated Suggs 14 times during his Ravens career, which is more than any other NFL quarterback.

Although these two have gone back and forth in victory and defeat, there is nothing but respect between Suggs and Roethlisberger. In 2018, the two swapped jerseys, and Roethlisberger assured Suggs that he had his vote as a first-ballot Hall of Famer.

On Sunday, the rivalry will sizzle at M&T Bank Stadium for what could be the final time.

Jalen Hurts wrote to the NFL after railing collapse in Washington

After the Philadelphia Eagles secured a playoff slot, another bizarre tragedy befell fans at FedEx Field — one that prompted Jalen Hurts to write the NFL.

It’s been a tough break for the Washington Football Team, who narrowly missed a chance at the postseason with a close 20-16 loss to their division rival, the Philadelphia Eagles.

Once again, FedEx Field showed up to torment opponents, but Sunday’s events were more dangerous than leaking sewage and cold benches. As Eagles fans reached out to congratulate Jalen Hurts, a stadium barrier broke and fans hurtled to the ground. Hurts went to ensure that fans were okay, and while he smiled with fans and tried to stay calm, he was deeply concerned about the incident.

Jalen Hurts concerned about collapsed railing at FedEx Field

While the Washington Football Team has had its fair share of poor PR this season, from mishandling Sean Taylor’s jersey retirement to the Jon Gruden firing that result from WFT’s email scandal, FedEx Field has been falling apart all year to the detriment of its visitors.

The Washington Football Team took offense to the Dallas Cowboys’ decision to import their own heated benches for their game in Dallas and bring them to every NFC East matchup remaining this season.

Washington went on to lose by 42 points, sitting on heated benches in an indoor stadium with outdoor temperatures in the 70s.

As comical as Washington’s response may have been to the benching fiasco, the shoddy construction of their home stadium is rather troubling. As Hurts notes in his letter, he and those around him were placed in a “dangerous situation” that could have caused “lingering injuries” for those involved.

While the drop may have not been severe for the fans falling onto the tunnel walkway, crashing onto fellow fans and onto concrete is even more dangerous when a metal barrier has broken, as sharp edges could have easily injured any of the fallen individuals. While Eagles fans were eagerly jumping to connect with Hurts, an NFL stadium owned by billionaire Dan Snyder should be able to withstand fan engagement.

But if Snyder has proven anything, it’s that he doesn’t care about anyone — not even the fans paying him money to enter his stadium.

3 NFL teams that could poach Jim Harbaugh from Michigan

Jim Harbaugh has a great thing going leading the Michigan football program, but an NFL return could potentially happen.

Michigan football head coach Jim Harbaugh just led his alma mater to a Big Ten Championship and a College Football Playoff berth, but the NFL beckons.

Bruce Feldman of The Athletic reported on Tuesday that Harbaugh might be tempted to leave the Wolverines if the right NFL job opened up. Harbaugh did coach the San Francisco 49ers previously, leading them to the NFC playoffs three times and a Super Bowl berth. While it ended poorly for him in San Francisco, there is no doubt about what the successful head coach can do in the NFL.

If Harbaugh does get the itch to go back to the NFL this offseason, these are the three jobs he could potentially leave Michigan for.

Jim Harbaugh: 3 NFL teams to potentially leave Michigan football program for

3

Jim Harbaugh is a peer of John Elway’s and that Stanford connection is a real one

An outside candidate to get Harbaugh would be the Denver Broncos. This is considered to be a stable organization, despite largely bad quarterback play outside of Peyton Manning since John Elway retired. Elway and Harbaugh are peers and they also have the Stanford connection. If new general manager George Paton thinks Harbaugh is an upgrade over Vic Fangio, this could happen.

2

Las Vegas Raiders

AFC West

Aligning oneself with Derek Carr could be massive for the Las Vegas Raiders

Though Rich Bisaccia has done very well taking over for Jon Gruden in the interim, the Las Vegas Raiders are one of the most alluring vacancies in this cycle. This could be a playoff team because Derek Carr is a stud at quarterback. Harbaugh got his coaching start for the Silver and Black in 2003 after retiring as a player. He is also supposedly very tight with Raiders owner Mark Davis.

Chicago Bears may go the Mike Ditka route to hire one of their own to save them

The Chicago Bears love to live in the past. If they want it to stop being 1985, they need to hire a head coach who can get the quarterback position right. Since Matt Nagy cannot, then why not hire Harbaugh to coach Justin Fields? Chicago was the team that drafted Harbaugh out of Michigan. He is one of the teams he is best associated with. The Bears may really go the Mike Ditka route here.

Ultimately, Harbaugh should stay in Ann Arbor unless he gets a godfather offer from one of these three teams. That is it. No other job is worth leaving for presently. Harbaugh does not typically stay in one place for very long, but he is coming up on a decade at Michigan. Though he does carry tremendous momentum into year eight in Ann Arbor, the NFL itch may need to be scratched again.

If Harbaugh leaves Michigan for the NFL this winter, it better be for the Bears, Broncos or Raiders.

Baker Mayfield is done for the season with shoulder injury

Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield is done for the 2021 season with a shoulder injury, according to the latest reports.

Baker Mayfield’s shoulder has troubled him all season long, but the latest update on his injury sufficiently seals his playing fate for the season.

According to Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski, Mayfield will be out on Sunday, meaning that his season is over.

Baker Mayfield ends 2021 season with shoulder injury

While the Browns entered 2021 coming off their most successful seasons in decades, Cleveland has endured considerable struggles as it fought to remain competitive in the AFC North.

The Browns, Bengals and Ravens kept it close throughout the regular season, but the Steelers and Ravens narrowly edged ahead of the Browns to keep them out of the AFC playoffs. The Browns are currently 7-9, and without Mayfield in Week 18, are likely to go 7-10.

A multitude of issues have made this a tough year for the Browns, especially for Mayfield. In December, Mayfield revealed that there have been “a lot of internal things” that have made this season difficult, which are speculated to go beyond Mayfield’s injuries.

In addition to injuring his shoulder and receiving a COVID-19 diagnosis, Mayfield also dealt with Odell Beckham Jr.’s dramatic departure, which helped to create “drama in the building” that was difficult to ignore.

While Mayfield was adamant the team has moved on from those challenges, those distractions, as well as his enduring injuries and ailments, made it virtually for the Browns to succeed this year.

Mayfield’s season ends the way much of it was spent: on the sideline nursing his wounded shoulder. Ideally, Mayfield can take the upcoming offseason to recover so that he and his team can adequately compete in the competitive AFC North next year.

3 NFL teams who are dumb enough to sign Antonio Brown

Antonio Brown may no longer be a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but some NFL team is dumb enough to sign the free-agent wide receiver.

Antonio Brown does not need to be on an NFL team right now, but some dumb organization might take a flier on the talented, but incredibly toxic wide receiver.

When he quit on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the second half of Sunday’s road game vs. the New York Jets, that should have been a curtain call on his controversial pro football career. However, NFL insider Josina Anderson reported on Tuesday morning that “If Antonio Brown wants a job on another team in the NFL, he can have one.” That is simply mind-blowing, but here we freaking are.

The ultimate goal is to not find oneself on this list of possible Brown free-agency destinations.

Antonio Brown: 3 NFL teams dumb enough to sign him as a free agent

Seattle Seahawks

NFC West

The Seattle Seahawks were a well-run operation, but that is no longer the case

This is more of an indictment on the current state of the Seattle Seahawks more than anything. When was the last time they were this utterly atrocious? With late owner Paul Allen passing away, his sister Jody has taken over and the franchise has been in a state of flux. This has allowed head coach Pete Carroll to run rampant and quarterback Russell Wilson to be always looking for a trade.

Under Carroll, Seattle had built up a reputation as a football culture that could handle eccentric personalities. The Seahawks are geographically isolated from the rest of the league and it is all about football in Seattle. This organization tends to do things differently from a personnel standpoint, so it would not be shocking to see the Seahawks pursue a player it already courted.

If the organization wants to pander to Wilson and get him a former Pro Bowl playmaker to keep him in Seattle for the final third of his career, this would not be surprising. Frankly, until ownership is settled and the Seahawks clearly decide to go in a different direction, they will be a candidate to land players like Brown. They are close to becoming the NFC version of the old Cincinnati Bengals.

Prior to lucking into Joe Burrow, what exactly were the Bengals after later owner Paul Brown died?

Le’Veon Bell pays tribute to former teammate Ben Roethlisberger

With Ben Roethlisberger’s NFL career about to end, former teammate Le’Veon Bell sent him an emotional message on Twitter.

For Pittsburgh Steelers fans out there, things sure are emotional right now. The scenes at Heinz Field were special on Monday night, as Ben Roethlisberger was sent off like a king. Yes, we know he hasn’t officially announced his retirement, but it’d be the shock of the century if he didn’t at this point.

In the past few days, fans, players and former teammates have been showering him with love. The long list now includes Le’Veon Bell. The two shared some memorable seasons together in Pittsburgh, and the running back took to Twitter to let everyone know how much Big Ben means to him.

Le’Veon Bell sent Ben Roethlisberger a classy tweet to honor his incredible career

This is great from Bell here. He’s still got a ton of respect for his former signal-caller and despite him currently suiting up for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and hoping to win a Super Bowl, that doesn’t mean he’s going to forget about the impact Roethlisberger had on him.

This Sunday, Roethlisberger will do everything he can to try and take down the Baltimore Ravens. Pittsburgh needs to win, the Colts to lose and the Raiders-Colts game not to end in a tie for the Steelers to grab an AFC Wild Card spot.

Unless all of that happens, then Sunday is looking like the last time we’ll ever see Roethlisberger jog out onto the field to lead out his teammates for a big game. Once the 2021 season does come to an end for Pittsburgh, it’ll only be a matter of time before an emotional Roethlisberger will hold a press conference and let everyone know that he has decided to hang up his cleats.

Antonio Brown reportedly has NFL team interested in him

Despite being cut by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in embarrassing fashion, an NFL team is open to signing Antonio Brown.

Is it possible we haven’t seen the last of Antonio Brown on the field this year? As soon as he tossed off his jersey and quit the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, everyone assumed his career was over. Who would want him after the Bucs also wasted no time in releasing him?

Well, let’s hold the phone on things here, as ESPN’s Josina Anderson is reporting that an unknown team out there would be interested in signing him. Somehow, this crazy story just keeps getting crazier.

An unknown NFL team could be ready to sign Antonio Brown

There’s no questioning Brown’s talent. He has shown time and time again that he’s a tremendous wideout and can be a difference-maker for a squad. Having said that, how much of his garbage are people going to be ready to tolerate?

Brown abandoned the Bucs in the middle of a game they were losing against the New York Jets. He didn’t leave gracefully either, as he was spotted shirtless jogging into the locker room, throwing up peace signs to fans in the stands.

Brown became a side show and wanted all the attention on him. There’s even video of Mike Evans imploring Brown to calm down and not quit the team. That effort was for nothing, though, as Brown left the field moments later.

For the Bucs, they’re now ready to try and defend their Super Bowl title with Brown nowhere close to the other players. Could a Super Bowl contender end up signing Brown to see what he can do in the playoffs? At this point, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see that happen.

Washington Football Team new name might have been leaked

With the Washington Football Team set to reveal its new team name next month, we might already know what they’re going with.

Come Feb. 2, the long wait will be over for Washington Football Team fans who are ready to see what direction the organization will be going with in terms of a new name and logo. Well, what if things have already been leaked four weeks in advance?

Things sure are feeling that way. Thanks to some craft detective work from ESPN’s Joon Lee, it looks like the new team name might be the Admirals.

Washington Football Team name may end up being the Admirals

So, how would Washington fans feel about this? Ever since the front office decided to get rid of the old Redskins name and logo, people have been waiting to see what would be coming next here. A change was needed and now it’s finally getting ready to be showcased.

However, things might have been ruined with Lee potentially catching on to things. Nevertheless, there’s so many fans out there who are sick of referring to the group they love as the Washington Football Team and they want to have an actual name out there to enjoy.

For Washington as a whole, this team has gone through some lean years, but there’s plenty of excitement for the future. Chase Young may have suffered his serious knee injury, but he’s got what it takes to be one of the best pass-rushers in the game.

Folks are ready for him to bounce back in a big way. When he does get back on the field, he’ll have a new team name to roll with too. Will it be the Admirals? We’ll know the answer to that question soon enough.

Andrew Thomas ‘definitely believes’ brighter days are ahead for Giants

Andrew Thomas’ NFL career could not have gotten off to a worse start. The fourth overall pick out of Georgia in the 2020 NFL draft was supposed to solve the New York Giants’ left tackle dilemma for the next decade.

Instead, Thomas floundered out of the gate and it took him nearly a half a season to get his sea legs under him. Since then, he’s steadily been improving and is on his way to becoming a top NFL left tackle.

From Pro Football Focus:

The Giants have dealt with a number of injuries this season, paving the way for seven different linemen to play at least 200 snaps. Andrew Thomas has shown massive improvements in his sophomore season, with just one sack surrendered and a 79.5 PFF pass-blocking grade. But when he is out of the lineup, things get ugly quickly.

With one game remaining in this lost 2021 season, Thomas met with the media to discuss his progress and the state of the team.

“For me, the focus is just trying to be the best player I can be for my team,” Thomas told reporters on Monday. “There are obviously things that I need to clean up as a player before I can look at somebody else and point the finger. I’ve got to be playing at the best possible way I can, so to do that, I’m focused on that.

“I think both seasons I’ve continued to get better as the season went on… We’ve got another opportunity this week to play at a level that I’m proud of, so just trying to work on that every day.”

Thomas said that the team is still committed to fight under Judge and that there are better days ahead.

“I definitely believe that,” he said. “I think we have a lot of talented guys in this locker room. I think we have the ability to play well. We’ve just got to get on the same page and stop beating ourselves. That’s the biggest thing Coach Judge always says is you can’t win until you keep from losing. Until we do that, we’re not going to be as successful as we want to be.”
