Packers get bad news on Jaire Alexander before Sunday Night Football

The Green Bay Packers will have to wait a bit longer for cornerback Jaire Alexander to return.

Jaire Alexander will have to wait even longer to return to the Green Bay Packers‘ defensive backfield.

The Pro Bowl cornerback out of Louisville has missed the last 11 games for the Packers due to injury. While the Packers were hoping he would be back in time for Sunday Night Football vs. the division rival Minnesota Vikings, Alexander tested positive for COVID and will not be playing in the Week 17 contest. Alexander may only play in four, possibly five, regular-season games this year.

Green Bay is hoping Alexander can be ready to rock by the time the divisional round gets here.

Green Bay Packers will be without starting cornerback Jaire Alexander yet again

By the time Alexander returns to the gridiron for the Packers, they could have the No. 1 seed all locked up in the NFC. That would mean only two home games would stand in the way of Green Bay getting back to the Super Bowl for the first time in a decade. They are among only a handful of teams that have a realistic shot of hoisting the Lombardi Trophy at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood.

Though the Packers defense has done just fine without Alexander for most of the year, his return will make things even easier for Green Bay. At this point, the Packers are only player for a Super Bowl championship. Anything short of winning the NFC this year will be viewed as a massive disappointment. Fortunately, the Packers are poised to get the top seed with a 14-3 record.

Green Bay will have to beat the Vikings in their place without Kirk Cousins starting at quarterback.
