Bryan Alvarez provided an update on the main event for WrestleMania and it looks like there could be a title change at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view.
During the latest Bryan and Vinny Show, Alvarez noted that people in the company believe that the Mania main event will feature a champion vs. champion match pitting Roman Reigns against Brock Lesnar. However, on today’s Wrestling Observer Live, Alvarez said that as of today, that is not the plan.
“With [Brock[ going to Raw for the time being and feuding with Lashley, the WrestleMania main event at this point appears to still be Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns. I do not know what this means but as of 20 minutes ago or so, it was not going to be a title vs. title match. What that means, I don’t know. It could mean that Brock will not be champion by the time Mania rolls around. It could mean that they’re just gonna do champion vs. champion like Survivor Series but each belt is not on the line. I don’t know what it means but as of 20 minutes ago, as of today, they are not doing like a title vs. title unification match at WrestleMania. Everything could change.”
It seems very unlikely that they would do a non-title champion vs. champion match at WrestleMania so if plans do not change then this likely means that Lesnar will drop the WWE Championship the Royal Rumble pay-per-view or at the pay-per-view in February and Lashley would be the champion going into WrestleMania.
There’s no word yet on other matches scheduled for Mania but this is what the top of the card for the Royal Rumble is looking like right now:
– WWE Championship: Brock Lesnar vs. Bobby Lashley
– WWE Raw Women’s Championship: Becky Lynch vs. Liv Morgan
– Men’s Royal Rumble match
– Women’s Royal Rumble match
