Asitha, Pathirana, and Dickwella are on alert for Sri Lanka. The three individuals have been given a spot in the main squad in case it becomes necessary to substitute players with them.
Sri Lanka Has Chosen to Include The Fast Bowlers
As a result of several injuries that have been sustained by its players, Sri Lanka has decided to add the fast bowlers Asitha Fernando and Matheesha Pathirana as well as the wicketkeeper-batter Niroshan Dickwella to their Twenty20 World Cup roster in Australia as back-up players.
This decision was made because Sri Lanka will be competing in Australia.
In preparation for the possibility that it would become essential for them to replace players on their main squad, the three persons have been added to the roster.
Tim McCaskill, who manages the high-performance facilities for Sri Lanka Cricket, will go to Australia with the team as well. McCaskill will be a member of the Sri Lanka Cricket squad.
The choice was made a day after left-arm seamer Binura Fernando, who himself entered the match as a replacement for Dilshan Madushanka, suffered an injury to his hamstring while playing for Sri Lanka against Australia. Dilshan Madushanka was the player that Madushanka replaced.
Dilshan Madushanka was a member of the team when it was first formed. During the competition, he was unable to bowl more than five deliveries before being forced to withdraw.
In the lead-up to and during the Twenty20 World Cup, several of Sri Lanka’s fast bowlers have been forced to miss time due to injury, with Binura being the most recent to succumb to his condition.
They Lacked Madushanka’s Left Arm Quickness Before His Injury
They were already missing their left-arm fast Madushanka owing to an injury to his quad before the tournament even began.
Dushmantha Chameera, the team’s speed leader, was knocked out of the competition after suffering a grade two tear in the calf of his left foot during the match against the UAE in the group stage on October 18.
He was subsequently ruled ineligible for the competition. Because of this, they were no longer able to participate in the tournament.
Seamer Pramod Madushan also went down with an injury and hasn’t played since the battle against UAE, although it hasn’t been determined whether or not he will be unable to play again just yet. The injury occurred during the encounter against UAE.
They were struck a blow during the group stage when Danushka Gunathilaka suffered an injury to his hamstring. This caused them to fall behind. Because of this, they had difficulty scoring runs in the batting area.
Ashen Bandara was called up as Gunathilaka’s replacement, and he had to step in and play in Sri Lanka’s first Super 12 encounter against Ireland in place of Pathum Nissanka, who was rested due to a groin injury.
Finishing Line
Pathum Nissanka was replaced because Ashen Bandara was called up as Gunathilaka’s replacement. Ashen Bandara took over as Sri Lanka’s permanent wicketkeeper after Pathum Nissanka, who had previously held the position.
The sole win for Sri Lanka up to this point in the Super 12 stage came against Ireland. They were unable to overcome Australia in this competition. Their next match, which will take place on Saturday at the SCG and include a match against New Zealand, is scheduled.
